Efim Zelmanov, the Fields Medal Winner and the Member of the National Academy of Sciences expressed his reason for coming to the Greater Bay Area and working in the Southern University of Science and Technology.
With open science as a driver for high-quality development, the 2024 Greater Bay Area Science Forum, was held collaboratively in the three regions of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao from November 12th to 19th.
When talking about international collaboration, he told SFC journalist that science needs to collaborate. They have an International Center for Mathematics at SUSTech in Shenzhen, with a very large number of visitors from all countries to hold international conferences every month. He stressed that Shenzhen is the city that radiates energy. "There is enormous support for science, and in particular mathematics, from the society and all levels of governments."
For AI's development, Efim Zelmanov supposed it will affect math research and it may create jobs for mathematicians. He thought the mathematical side of AI is still in its infancy.
